CHARISM , MOTTO & EMBLEM

CHARISM & MOTTO

To impart the Compassionate Love of Jesus to people, toiling, poor and unsupported, by doing ordinary services with extra ordinary love, in imitation of the simple life of Jesus of Nazareth.

  • “LOVE SERVES”

VISION AND MISSION

To dedicate ourselves completely to Jesus Christ, the Savior and the humble Servant of God and witness to Him in prayer leading us to a life of service of the poor and the least in the society. Walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ by practising a simple and hard life, we commit ourselves to communicate His compassionate love to all, especially to those who suffer toiled and are marginalized.
We, the Sisters of St Martha, have a call to closely follow Jesus, by a life of service accruing from prayer, by a life of prayer that gives the inner inspiration to pray, and by a life of simplicity. We are called to become a sacrament of divine mercy, by making ourselves conformed to Christ who sacrificed himself through his death upon the cross, and by offering ourselves as service of love to our brethren. The official emblem of our Congregation clearly indicates this goal of life proper to us.

  • EMBLEM

CROSS

Jesus gave a new meaning to cross by living a life of self-emptying. The cross of Christ is the sign of the boundless redeeming love of God, who offered salvation to those, who walk by the cross which is God’s power (1 Cor.1:18). God whose very nature is love willed to sacrifice his own son in order save the world so that no one may perish; it is a same love that inspires us to love our brethren and induces us to lead the poor and unsupportedinto the love of Jesus. The cross is the sign of our having renounced all natural attachments that may impede us from following Jesus Christ. It is also a sign of our readiness to sacrifice even our life for the sake of Jesus (Mt .10:33-39). It does not only depict the salutary value of suffering and humiliation, but also is an anticipation of our future glory.

The Holy Eucharist

The Holy Eucharist is the divine mystery in which our Lord, in fulfilment of His words, ‘I am the bread of life’ (Jn.6:48), became flesh and blood for our sake. The Holy Eucharist is the Sacrament of love, the sign of unity and the centre of our consecrated life. It reminds us of our responsibility to become an instrument of divine mercy for others through service.

Hands

Our hands are to serve and make the neglected and poor people grow by imparting to them the compassionate love and peace of Christ, our Lord. Let us try to become a ransom for others through our humble, selfless and loving service.

Open Book

It is through His word that God revealed His will and fulfils His purpose of redeeming the world. The very originating point of our consecrated life is the Word made flesh. It is the Word of God that has to nourish us daily (OL.10). The Holy Scripture which contains the word of God is an inexhaustible source of our life. We shall daily listen to it, treasure it up in our heart and order our life accordingly.

Lamp

“Indeed, you are my lamp, O Lord” (2 Sam.22:29). The lamp is a symbol inviting us to closely follow Jesus who is the light of the world. It is our mission to bear witness to Christ by imparting light to countless people staggering in a world of darkness and sin.

‘M’

The letter ‘M’ signifies our Blessed Mother Mary who fulfilled the will of God by surrounding herself at every moment of her life, with the words, “here am I, the servant of the Lord!” She, at the very moment of her experience of God’s salvation, went in haste in view of service. Thereby she reminds us that we, the consecrated, are to discern the needs and anxieties of others (Jn.2:5). Mary also teaches us that our daily life will become happy and blessed, only if we live according to the will of God.
The letter ‘M’ also reminds us of St. Martha who led a large number of persons to faith in Jesus; she was an example of intercessory prayer. She, who manifested her love through service, is a model for us to serve all by seeing the face of Jesus himself in all.

“LOVE SERVES”

We should strive to acquire relationship with God and our brethren, with all the features of Jesus’ love itself. A spiritual life centered on Jesus through prayer and loving service will enable us to participate in the perfection and holiness of our Heavenly Father.
